Haute & Bothered MIX by TROY KURTZ Release Party | CAFEINA | SAT 8.28

Summer anywhere can leave you hot and bothered, but only summer in Miami leaves you Haute & Bothered!

To celebrate the fashionable near nakedness and sexual hormonal spikes of Miami’s naughtiest season (whatever tourists and winter, locals get really scandalous during the summer), Overthrow’s Troy Kurtz made a mix that perfectly fits the sins of the city during the summer. Sophisticated bass, exclusive remixes, and sexy blends make this mix the one to drop when the heat becomes to much to bear without bearing a little more skin.

Wynwood’s gallery/lounge CAFEINA plays host to the official release party of this mix with Troy playing an extended Haute & Bothered set, and guest sets by Corey Sleazemore and Damaged Goods. To keep you cool and quench your thirst, we will be having drink specials all night.

Greg Mike brings “Popstars & Cokeheads” to Miami

Never trust a man with two first names. Unless of course he happens to be one of the realest friends you could ever have, and it helps if his moniker is running the gamut of your favorite blogs…

Atlanta based GREG MIKE is the nexus of several worlds. He is a formally trained studio artist who commands a rich understanding of street art, graphic design, fashion design, and commercial branding, packaging and marketing. In the past year, has been bombarding the art scene with his signature low-brow / street series “Popstars and Cokeheads.” First appearing in San Francisco’s esteemed Medicine Gallery last fall, then hitting home for his second show.  Saturday June 12, Overthrow is proud to host the third stop at Butter Gallery in Downtown Miami’s Art District.  Subsequently, we’ll be hosting the afterparty down the street at Bardot.

In homage to this fine venture, Greg Mike and Overthrow are releasing a collaborative T-shirt at the afterparty.  We’re giving away 10 shirts and selling a limited quantity at a local boutique undisclosed until the day of the show.

Here’s a sneak peek of the goods:

Deathface x Art of Murder - Miami Overthrow Black Magick Massacre 1/30

deathface-x-art-of-murder

Overthrow Presents Deathface at the White Room 1/30 from The Overthrow on Vimeo.

Is murder an art?

Is the splatter of blood across a white wall like a stroke of the painters brush?

Is the slashing of flesh and the breaking of bones like a sculptor molding his clay?

Can the most brutal and inhumane act capable of man be compared to the depth and meaning symbolized by the works of creative masters?!

These questions and more will be answered Saturday January 30th when Overthrow presents the return of The Art of Murder, the most diabolical exhibition of carnage ever considered an oeuvre. Perpetrated by the ‘Serial Killer of South Beach’ himself, Alexis Mincolla will reawaken the demons that drove him to create the largest body of blood soaked snuff films ever to hit a night club bathroom. Celebrities, DJs, musicians, models, scenesters, waitresses, children; his list of victims reads like a VIP guest list.

Rumored to have moved to NYC, it was recently discovered that the killing spree was only stopped after a court ordered junction put the madman in a home for the criminally insane. But now his time is up, and Mincolla and his killer crew are back and planning their next premeditated act of slaughter. No one is safe as word is this is going to be the most devastating massacre to date!

Featuring the lethal sounds of Deathface, the newest member of Brooklyn’s own Trouble & Bass assassin squad, expect the gore to reach new levels of horror!

BEWARE: IF YOU ATTEND YOU WILL SEE UNSPEAKABLE ACTS OF DEPRAVITY, HEAR SOUNDS THAT WILL HAUNT YOUR SOUL, AND LEAVE COVERED IN BLOOD!!!

It’s going to be a black night of evil at the White Room.

Arcade Saturdays - Come play. And die.

Danger at Misfit Friday at Louis in the Gansevoort South

Hollywood Holt in the Abracadabrillac for Overthrow and GenARTs Vanguard Event at Aqua Art Miami

White Light Syndrome (Smiles and Dell Harris) in Abracadabrillac and on the roof for Overthrow and GenARTs Vanguard Event at Aqua Art Miami

Overthrow killed Basel Miami week 2009. Like really messy too.
Starting with our event at Shore Club with Primary Flight painting live, Shepard Fairey ripping a dope set, Ebony Bones spinning the jams, and Peanut Butter Wolf doing an incredible hip hop video mix, not to mention enough Prometheus Springs to drown a white god/bull.
Next we launched Aqua Art Fair with GenART where Hollywood Holt was spinning out of the Overthrow Abracadabrillac, JESP was dancing and singing on the roof, and White Light Syndrome destroying it with the Overthrow Theme song they made while being carried on peoples shoulders around the courtyard. Meanwhile the Overthrow installation/booth at the fair was packed as Guido an’ Supa Jew hustled hot art and sold roses to all the pretty ladies.
Misfit Friday at Louis took it to a whole nother level with Chad Muska and the Supra crew banging all kinds of hip hop and dance tracks before France’s Danger won best set by an alien ever. Overthrow, lastnightsparty.com, and a motley crew of maniacs took over the stage at Mansion where Justice did things not fit to discuss even over the internet. Lives were ruined, people fell out of car windows, and the term “French Fry” has a whole new meaning.

Check more pictures from the Aqua Art Fair GenART Vanguard Opening by clicking here. And here is a link to a video of some of the fairs highlights which naturally includes a lot of ours.

Check some of the pics from Friday by clicking here or on the picture of Danger above. More shots from the weekends festivites to come.

Now all we need is an alibi….

Overthrow Presents ‘Banal Street’ at Aqua Art Miami Dec. 3-6

OVERTHROW presents BANAL STREET | an AQUA ART FAIR INSTALLATION from The Overthrow on Vimeo.

During this year’s international celebration of culture Art Basel Miami, Overthrow will be curating a booth at the Aqua Art Fair Miami as part of GenARTs Vanguard. Led by conceptual engineers Alexis Mincolla and Sam Baum, the collective plan to subvert the perception of buying and selling art by transforming their booth into an urban street market filled with iconic tourist souvenirs, bad knock-offs, and other mass-produced kitsch mixed with art work by some of Miami, Los Angeles and New York’s best young artists. Overthrow presents “Banal Street”.

The pompous attitude so often associated with the world of fine art turns off and excludes people that are interested in the culture. Due to arbitrarily high price points, galleries often assume a pretentious air in order to attract upscale collectors. However, art’s true value is not measured by the auctioneers’ gavel, but by the affect it has on its audience members. By reversing the environment associated with buying art it will force attendees to reassess the perceived value of art. By displaying and making available at low cost both original works and prints, collectors will not be limited by their budgets but by their taste.

The booth will serve both as a gallery selling art and an installation itself. The Overthrow Army are all contributing with street photography from The Huntress Stephanie Choate, set design by Snake Charmer Aban Sonia, and contributions from The Viking Stian Roenning (who will also be showing a separate show at the Aqua Art Fair). Displaying work from 131 Projects, Ross Ford, Johnny Robles, Adrienne Adar, and Matt Baum.

Don’t Sleep | Primary Flight/Blue Print for Space - Kickoff Party

overthrow-dr-dreWednesday DEC 2nd - The Shore Club Miami
Beats by Dr. Dre and Overthrow present:
Don’t Sleep - The Primary Flight/Blue Print for Space
Kickoff Party

Collecting a group of artists whose fame and esteem is matched only by their infamy, Primary Flight is a collective of street and urban painters from around the country that “redecorates” the walls of Wynwood with giant murals LIVE throughout Miami’s Art Basel Festivities. This year the team, lead by Miami’s own bombing maestros Typoe and Books, goes in with its biggest, most aerosol blasting, paint dripping venture to date.

To celebrate, we are doing an equally massive kickoff event. With things being lead by master of ceremonies the legendary Dr. Dre, we will be having Primary Flight artist and creator of the iconic Barak Obama ‘HOPE’ image Shepard Fairey doing a DJ set, Stones Throw hip hop genius Peanut Butter Wolf doing a special video production, the next-MIA/Santigold-megastar-super-status Ebony Bones, and a 30 foot mega mural being painted LIVE by the crew.

And did we mention FREE DRINKS ALL NIGHT with a PROMETHEUS SPRINGS VIP AREA. Yeah, the paint is going to be the only thing getting drier during this jam.

Primary Flight 2009 - Prepare for takeoff.

Featuring:
Guest appearance by Dr. Dre
Peanut Butter Wolf (VJ set)
Shepard Fairey (DJ Set)
Ebony Bones
Danny Daze
Induce
DJ Y-Not
