Discover Guilty Pleasures

Ben Franklin: scientific genius or reckless kite enthusiast?Guilty pleasures are a secret big OK. How else are you supposed to get through the daunting task of morning after?
A Coke slurpee to get rid of a hangover? PLEASURE
Adding Jack in that slurpee? GUILTY PLEASURE
You didn’t exchange numbers with the person you went home with last night? GUILTY
You don’t remember the NAMES of the PEOPLE you went home with last night? GUILTY PLEASURE (and props)
Fucking embrace that shit yo!

But for a slightly less debaucherous form of guilty morning after pleasure, we have Discovery. Combining Rostam Batmanglij of Vampire Weekend (PLEASURE) and Wes Miles of Ra Ra Riot (GUILTY), the jams are a good soundtrack to sort where your underwear are.

You’re Fucking Out, and I’m Fucking In: Dirty Hairy presents Roctakon and Ross One at LIV

That's not a black and white picture, they just don't get much sun

That's not a black and white picture, they just don't get much sun

2 of the country’s biggest club DJs, our very own Ross One and mega club rocker Roctakon, bro down at Dirty Hairy Wednesdays at LIV.

The term “club banger” was invented to define what the brothers-from-other-mothers live and die by when making the most fashionable people sweat very unfashionably on the dance floor. Roctakon has been described as “the Kenny Powers of DJing” and “the Hank Moody of the scene. He might even have a mild case of tourette’s. No one quite understands where he’s coming from… or how he found himself in the most ironic situation of being one of the biggest and best club djs for bottle-service”. Shit, when was the last time you heard a DJ compared to a David Duchovny character famous for infidelity, pot smoking, and ass kicking? Dude is real!

See how he earned such an astounding rep by fact checking:

Ladies get Roct

Yeah, you may have heard his remix before

mistabishi

I’ve been listening to this guy since the economy went down the tubes a while back. He is a ex- day trader from london who is now signed to Hospital Records. He popped up on my radar when I found out about his track that he made entirely from the sound of a printer jam. Needless to say I was totally blown away and I decided to do my homework on him. His sound has a ton of range but as you might guess, I prefer his more sinister stuff. Here have a listen, as i’ve uploaded two of his tracks to the bottom and if you like. check him out at: http://www.mistabishi.co.uk/

Radio Ain’t Dead, Its Just Hiding in the Village

We have some brethren over at The Fader Magazine, one of the few magazines still keeping it real in this world of dying print (we’re looking at you small format Rolling Stone) continuously going in with step-ahead content and quality photography. Remind you of anyone?!

The homies hold it down each week with an internet radio show in the East Village cleverly named East Village Radio. Their segment is called The Let Out as it is on Friday every week from 6-8 pm, right before Mark Ronson’s stellar segment call Authetntic Shit. Check the shit out as a) it jams, and b) Overthrow’s next guest Theophilus London is on there with a new track which drops about an hour in. But don’t fast forward it you impatient bastards because there’s also Diplo and Switch’s new Major Lazer project, Weezy trying admirably to do something with his headwear, and DJ Ayers from Brooklyn’s allstar DJ team The Rub guesting for a set that makes you feel fresh despite the summer heat.

THEOPHILUS LONDON LIVE for his Miami Debut

Theophilus London just got back from a whirlwind European tour where his international fan base, including Grammy award winning super-producer Mark Ronson, packed out venue after venue to witness his infamous high-energy stage performances. He is being hailed as the next big thing by industry tastemakers such as The Fader and URB magazine, and is getting so much attention on the Internet you’d think he made a sex tape with a celebutante.  All before he has even released his first album.

The Brooklyn rapper/singer has a smooth and soulful voice with a crisp and multi-styled rap delivery that often finds itself riding over beats as diverse and widely influenced as they come; his most recent release, This Charming Mixtape, spans electro-soul, Malian pop beats, and an absolutely amazing dance cover of Whitney Houston’s “I Will Always Love You”. The mix’s art is even a tribute to rock legend Elvis Costello. Yet London’s undeniable ability to interject his own sense of style and swagger makes everything he touches fresh, entertaining, and absolutely charming.

OVERTHROW presents Theophilus London (Live Miami Debut)

May 19th, 2009

The Overthrow Army continues its march towards the reinvigoration of Miami subculture as it launches into the summer with the announcement of a new collaboration and the fittingly epic beginning of a new series of Overthrow events!

Conceptual artist Alexis Mincolla, creator of Bella Rose’s notorious ‘Black Sunday’, and Miami alternative music impresario Sam Baum, co-founders of the creative collective known as Overthrow, has teamed up with South Beach staple Sebastian Puga to continue the purveyance of rad starting May 19th, 2009.

los dudes de overthrow

Sam Baum and Alexis Mincolla conceived Overthrow in an effort to provide a quality yet provocative nightlife option within the supersaturated social landscape of Miami. By focusing on the minutiae of creating memorable events by generating indelible collateral, curated music, and unique artistic x-factors, as opposed to who was there or where it was, their roving party’s “come and be influenced” mentality quickly developed a who’s-who of Miami following. The party quickly outgrew its secretive origins and David Grutman’s Miami Marketing Group came knocking to hire Overthrow to spearhead a new mega-indie/electro party that has become the national phenomenon known as “Dirty Hairy.” Not long after, The Opium Group also approached the duo for creative direction for their premium venue Louis in the Gansevoort Hotel.

Sebastian Puga has spent the last 5+ years producing and hosting parties at South Beach’s hottest venues. Originally lured into the smaller boutique venues during the pioneering days of Miami’s alternative scene, he was eventually tapped for the Director of Promotions position at Tommy Lee’s Miami outpost Rokbar. Long recognized as “the face” of Rokbar, Puga is credited for originally introducing Miami to such underground music legends as Justice, MSTRKRFT, Junior Sanchez, Cut Copy, the Presets and the Scissor Sisters. Puga has entertained the full gamut of entertainment, music, and art elite and remains one of South Beach’s hippest and most trusted personalities.

Now, the three have teamed to expand upon their mutual concept of individualistic marketing and production. Employing their signature brand of edgy creative energy via a full service entertainment agency, the collective will focus on Miami’s most influential art, design, music, film, and fashion industries and “overthrow” them with remarkable events targeting tastemakers worldwide.
