Overthrow’s very own production duo Caligula (Damaged Goods + Grand Larceny) have really made quick work of the music game by winning the national M.I.A. track Steppin’ Up remix contest with the first official release. The remix is a dubbed out interpretation that brings the lyrics and chorus of the song to their most basic meaning, going the opposite direction of the abstract sounds of the original track.
This victory means they will be headed to to LA to attend HARD Fest as well as spend 3 days in the fabled Red Bull Studios, where they will likely produce a song responsible for an earthquake. OK, so we dont spend a lot of time on the west coast and we took a cheap shot about earthquakes. We’ve heard almost everything else out there is perfect so go fuck yourself!
Recently we had the 4th anniversary of our primo ATLien dance riot, Sloppy Seconds, and featured the the queen of Juke herself, Kid Sister, along with djs Tamara Sky, Smiles, and MeganFoxxx. As a recap, Oh Snap Kid cooked up a post traumatic experience of Kid Sister’s live shenannegans.
Overthrow propaganda has now officially reached the airwaves as Damaged Goods and Troy Kurtz each took some time to drop sets on DJ Atrain’s Ocean Frontin’ Radio show. Check the UStreams below and click here to hear more from the show.
Special thanks to Miami producer/DJ LOS and stay tuned to hear more from him and Overthrow in the near future.
Summer is half way over and that means it is time to do what we do every time we come across an occasion, large or small, significant or mundane, real or invented: celebrating! This weekend there are back to back events of such divergent and unique musical and geographic features it will be impossible to miss either one. Don’t you love lack of choices?
Friday night at Misfit Friday italian super producer Congorock will be joining Damaged Goods behind the decks at Louis on South Beach. The Fool’s Gold Records signee and man behind the epic track Babylon will be doing a late night set so make sure you save some energy. We will also be celebrating Overthrow’s Snake Charmer Aban Sonia’s b-day, so you can use that as extra motivation to stay up.
Saturday night we cross the bridge to downtown’s newest super-venue Grand Central and join our esteemed colleagues Poplife for the monthly Overthrow. Joining us will be the endlessly talented but normally mega club contracted DJ Ross One with NYC’s music-pedia and remix master Roctakon. This will be the first time the two all-star party rockers are performing downtown and trust that they will be dropping a set that would get them kicked out of the models n’ bottles clubs they normally play so fast it would make a bra clad table service waitress drop her tips into some rich old dude’s champagne flute. If you’ve never heard them play their REAL sets, get ready for a treat because they are really some of the most talented DJs in the country and on Saturday they are going to show everyone their secret identities. Also dropping jams will be TKO (Damaged Goods + Troy Kurtz), Jessica Who, and Mike Deuce. If you’re mathmetically inclined you will have realize that is six of the best DJs in the city, all in one place on one night. And considering its Troy’s bday, he counts triple so that pushed the numbers to 8! Woah, thats enough DJs to make Octomoms everywhere nervous!
Sonic C is a true Miami prodigy. Born and raised in the Magic City, the youngest person signed to Steve Aoki’s Dim Mak Records, the teenager can’t legally get into most of the venues he’s playing, including his gig this Friday at Louis.
Sonic C has made some of the biggest tracks of the past year with everyone from Laidback Luke to Diplo to Atrak dropping his tunes as staples of their sets.
Catch him this week at Louis alongside resident Damaged Goods and a special swimwear week party with The Daily Front Row, Campins, Chris Smith, and Spin Galactic.
Misfit Friday, where sonic meets swimwear.
What a great fucking combo.

Last year at a gallery opening in Miami, we were talking about how we were headed to Argentina. Homie Lex Aerosyn of the KDU, our consummate jet-setting globe-trotter, said he has the dude out there we had to meet. Cue dinner and wild night of underground clubbing in Buenos Aires with ZZK Records owner Grant and Fool’s Gold Records owner Atrak. Grant also broke us off with a grip of fire albums and mixes based in the genre they have pretty much founded called electro-cumbia, a unique Argentine sound that is sweeping electronic music in general, getting love from The Fader magazine and Pirate Stereo.
Now, our fam out in Argentina at ZZk records is raising money to bring electro Cumbia to your American asses and then make them shake. Watch the video above and then follow the links to give some money to someone other then your liquor store owner, bartender, stripper or drug dealer.
